[Budget Announcement] Hoping for the Working Holiday 417 and Work & Holiday 462 visas

Yesterday’s budget announcement has confirmed something we were hoping for the Working Holiday 417 and Work & Holiday 462 visas; if the visa holder is currently working in food processing or agricultural sectors, they will be exempt from the six-moth work limit with a single employer.

Traditionally these visas allow someone to travel to Australia and work for up to a year but only for six months with one employer. Having to find new work after 6 months was a downside to the 417 and 462 visas so this is great news for anyone already working in food production or farming.

This decision was inspired by the fact that a lot of fruit picking and harvesting work is done by tourists on the 417 and 462 visas and with the boarders closed farmers have been finding it difficult to fill these positions.
